The Australian Microelectronics Centre, through its K12 Robotics Program, fosters technical skills for the future by supporting school students to develop their interest in engineering as a career pathway. The Centre facilitates robotics workshops, looks to supports local robotics competitions and establishes linkages between students and industry.
Supporting three schools through a collaboration with the Queensland Mines and energy academy. Students engauge in a mine mapping project as part of there science or engineering studies.
The second round of robotics engineering training took place at Nanango State High School recently where Damien Kee (Domabotics) ran two workshops for students in years 8-10. The workshop also provided a professional development opportunity for teacher, James Nelson, who will be responsible for the roll out of the Mine Mapping Robotics program through their new Digital Automated Technologies (DAT) subject.
The project will commence in term two with Nanango and Toolooa State High schools rolling it out through their curriculum.
Moranbah State High School is also involved in the project however robotics is one of the extra-curricula activities offered by the school.
